Because of the silly band name which obvious sounds better in english (Trash Divers) I actually expected the band to be very young. Therefore it got pretty weird when the music kicked off. With a mix between hardcore and punkrock and a singer who squeezes out guttural sounds... I really don’t get it, although it makes it stand out very much. Unfortunately in a negative way, after all I'm not a fan of this singing style. But I don’t want to write Sopdykarna down totally because it gets better and better for each time I play the record. I really appreciate the music and the lyrics are good as well. That makes the foundation both solid and interesting for the future. And I must say that I am curious which path they will choose. There is a grindcore part in the last song "En vidrig morgon" where the vocals fits much better. And I think although it's not grindcore that Sopdykarna can attract those fans. I am not overwhelmed but they still managed to arouse my interest. Give them a chance.
UNDERGROUND EUROPE dates back to 2015 and is the first European record fair and swap focused only on underground vinyl This year it takes place on the 5th of October at SO36 in Berlin, Germany. Besides being a record swap, Underground Europe works towards creating a community of independent vinyl enthusiasts, providing a place where once a year they can meet, exchange records, listen to music and chat about it. A place where they can get in touch with people who run record stores, mailorders, record labels, play in bands, or are just big underground vinyl fans. UNDERGROUND EUROPE is both a record fair and a record swap. On one hand, you have exhibitors from all over Europe with stacks of secondhand and new vinyl. On the other hand, you have random visitors bringing in their vinyl to trade and bargain with other visitors or exhibitors themselves. If you are dropping by, bring a box of vinyl you no longer appreciate to trade it with something you might like. This year the program includes presentations for 3 different books. I have to admit right from the start that I’m not an expert when it comes to grindcore. Despite of that it is a genre that affects me in a positive way. It all started when I heard Nasum for the first time and their songs on the compilation Really Fast Vol.9 from 1994. It was like a fist right between my eyes. Then it continued with the almighty Assück which is a band I still listen to every now and then. But well, this is Brainwasher from Sweden and the tape Procrustean Bed which contains eight tracks. It didn’t took me a long time to like them. I almost demand that grindcore has to be well played and not too noisy, and I think that Brainwasher fulfill my requirements. Of course there are some noisy elements but those elements should actually be there. Let’s move on to one of the best thing about Brainwasher – the vocals, which are totally brutal and the lack of growling makes me delighted. There’s actually no need for growling with a voice like this. One band that has influenced Brainwasher are Repulsion which can be heard clearly. Im so grateful that they stay on the right side of the border between punk/hc and metal. The running time on this tape is ten minutes divided in 8 tracks. The production isn’t 100% crispy but that is something who make the fist between my eyes even more effective.
Hi The Nilz, please introduce the band Hi I'm Eddie Nil, vocals & all round Gimp. On bass we have Chris Dahmner, drums Backdoor Gary and on guitar Scaley Dick What was the plans and ideas when you formed the band? I'm not sure there was much of a plan but the idea of forming the band probably came about through our want of something more exciting for Irish Punk, there was no band that really excited us, there where & are really good bands but no one as edgy or exciting as us live, thats being very honest not arrogant How would you describe your sound and is there any special bands that have influenced you? I've always thought its up to others to describe what sound we have, I think when you're as close to it as we are your perception can be skewed somewhat, as regards Influence we have tons. I think the major influences we have are The Dwarves, Refused, The Bronx & obviously Turbonegro
You are from Dublin, what can you say about the local punk scene? It's not really a movement if you don't move, we have some terrific bands in Dublin but crowds tend to be a little subdued, I'll admit it is getting much better though we've recently had a few crazy gigs You have this project called Buddycore, what is that about? Buddycore was set up to really create a DIY network around Ireland so we could bring bands from around the country to Dublin and in turn send bands from Dublin to different collectives around the country that we are connected to, we've branched out in recent years to bring bands such as Zooparty, Existenz & The Headlines from Sweden plus a few bands now from Germany, it also means we get to go gig in those countries, we also set it up to give the younger bands somewhere to cut their teeth and get involved as well, we're not total degenerates, well... Your music videos are very spectacular, what is the thoughts behind them? Would you say that the videos describe you as a band? We've always loved making videos but have always been of the mindset that they should be either funny or make you uncomfortable in someway while watching them, we did one video where it's just clips from one of our performances, that one is probably my least favourite as its in no way esoteric or disgusting, we love a bit of filth What plans do you have for the future? After this years Buddyfest (which is a 2 day gig we run each year) we're going to take a break from gigging for about 6 months or so, to write & record our debut album, we have a lot of it written at this point but we've been quite busy this year gigging so we need some time to work on them, after thats recorded we hope to come back to Sweden for a couple of gigs with our good mates Existenz Is there anything you want to add? Bleak Outlook DC from Eskilstuna in Sweden have recently released a new CD ”Kontrapunk”. The usual opinion is that a band is never as good as their first record but BODC are different. They just get better and better. It has been fantastic to follow the band and see how their development curve continues to point straight up. BODC can be compared to all the classic bands from the british 77-wave, like UK Subs, Menace and SLF but they have their own characteristic sound which contains a bit of darkness, something you can hear in ”The World Is A Dangerous Place”. But despite that the music is catchy and offers some sing-a-long parts. Kontrapunk contains of 14 tracks where 9 are previously unreleased. 4 of the tracks were featured on their EP ”Knowledge is bliss”. One of the best songs on this record must be ”Leaders of men”, it’s a song who is significant with the sound of Bleak Outlook DC with strong choruses, nice melodies and thoughtful lyrics. This is high quality punkrock and 30 well invested minutes. Even the last song ”Be my enemy” which is a cover by The Waterboys works very well. I really want to recommend this song for all lovers of pure punkrock.
Headons - Bäst före 16-10-2014 Länk: Facebook A Message To You Records
Headons har susat förbi lite här och där men jag har aldrig riktigt haft tid att sätta mig in i hur de låter så nu är det dags. Det var dessutom bättre än vad jag hade väntat mig. Ganska kaxig och lagom skitig svensk punkrock som för tankarna åt Stockholms Negrer och Rolands Gosskör. Det som verkligen lockar fram det råa och skitiga är sången som har så mycket attityd att det går att visualisera hur saliven fullkomligt stänker. Jag vet inte om Headons har någon koppling till Sabotage 81 förutom att båda banden är från Halmstad, men utöver redan nämnda band kan jag inte låta bli att få en del Sabotage 81-vibbar också. Av skivans åtta låtar föredrar jag Lamotten is nådd, Emo samt Säg det. Det finns helt klart något som gör Headons intressanta och det känns som jag borde lyssna in mig även på deras tidigare prylar. English summary: Swedish punkrock with loads of energy and attitude. For fans of swedish 80's punkrock. Headons may not be innovative but still interesting because of their attitude and they follow a great tradition of Swedish semi melodic punkrock like Asta Kask, Los Bohemos and Stockholms Negrer.
Knifven har varit igång sedan 2010 och ändå har de aldrig korsat min väg. Därför kan jag inte gå in på hur de har utvecklats under den 9-åriga karriären. Det behövs förvisso inte för Trött Dött Kött representerar hur bandet låter idag och det låter inte alls dumt. Lite Ebba Grön men ännu mer Garbochock och det alldeles för bortglömda bandet Spion 13. En strålande blandning mellan punkrock och new wave. Framför allt är det synten som gör att jag fastnar där på 80-talet. Sen är låtarna sjusärdeles riviga och perfekt melankoliska, det är precis så man fångar mig. Skivan innehåller 7 låtar och har en speltid på sisådär 18 minuter. Favoritlåtarna är "Drömmen" på grund av refrängen samt "18" för det är underbart när rösten nästan spricker i versen. Det här var helt enkelt en ny och trevlig bekantskap som med all säkerhet kommer att snurra en del här hemma och nu måste jag kolla upp deras tidigare prylar.
Protestera - Live benefit for the antifascist struggle in Gothenburg https://www.facebook.com/protestera.goteborg/ Flyktsoda Records Här har vi då en livekassett med Protestera där allt överskott går till den antifascistiska kampen i Göteborg, något som går helt i linje med vad både Protestera och Flyktsoda handlar om. När det gäller liveinspelningar går ju ofta tankarna på hur ljudet fungerar och jag tycker helt klart att de har fått till det och även fått till en bra livekänsla. Konserten spelades in 2015 och en majoritet av låtarna finns med på bandets LP 01.05.1886 från 2010. Däribland favoritlåten "Världens vackraste brott". Har man hört Protestera tidigare vet man vad som väntar men jag gillar även "Rock 'n riot" som sticker ut på ett kaxigt sätt. Protestera är verkligen duktiga på att arrangera sina låtar, när de är förbannade manglar de utav bara fan, när de vill lyfta fram olika haranger sänker de tempot, men det sker aldrig på bekostnad av något. Hardcorepunken ställs aldrig åt sidan. Och hardcore med stark anarkistisk betoning är det från början till slut. Kassetten innehåller 11 låtar och jag kan inget annat än att rekommendera alla att skaffa den.
Det fanns en tid då jag kände att jag måste börja lyssna mer på Protestera, det gör jag nu och är nöjd över mig själv på grund av det. Mina känslor för bandet blir bara större och större för varje gång. Det här är en återpress på CD, vinylen släpptes 2000 men bandet ville få ut den på CD då inte alla har möjlighet att spela vinylskivor. Snyggt gjort tycker jag. Även om Protestera har utvecklats på flera plan under dessa 20 år är låtarna tyvärr fortfarande aktuella. Protestera tar inte den enkla och uttjatade vägen om att bara sjunga om allt elände i samhället, de presenterar även sina lösningar på problemen. Det här är anarcho-hardcore när den är som bäst. Texterna och växelsången tar med rätta stor plats men man får inte glömma bort den välarrangerade musiken, det är den som ger kraft till det andra. Blandningen av det råa snabba tillsammans med det lite mer hardcoredoftande passar som handen i handsken, typ Mob 47 möter Nausea. Till sist måste jag tillägga att outrot på skivan är förtrollande. Allting är snyggt paketerat med slipcase och skivans 12 låtar inklusive intro och outro har en speltid på nästan 30 minuter. Som ni förstått gillar jag den här halvtimmen.
Corporate Citizen - A Brief Moment Of Sanity 7" https://corporatecitizensd.bandcamp.com/ El Topo Records Då dök det upp en sjutummare från soliga Californien men det bästa av allt är att Corporate Citizen inte är så musikaliskt soliga trots att det handlar om melodiös hardcore. Istället rör sig snarare Corporate Citizen mot post-hardcore där Fugazi möter Minor Threat varvat med lite Stalag 13. Bara det säger sig självt att det här är bra grejer. Utöver det finns det både ett schyst stök och tillfällen då de bjuder upp till allsång. De fyra låtarna på den här EPn kommer alla från albumet med samma namn och alla de nio låtarna finns på bandets Bandcampsida. Det som imponerar mest med Corporate Citizen är hur de kan blanda hardcorestilar från fyra årtionden och få det att låta enhetligt. Sista låten "Bold-Faced Lies" är ett typexempel när 80-talet blandas med något jag vill beskriva som 90-tals sXe hardcore. Det blir inte konstigt på något sätt, tvärtom blir det en fantastisk dynamik vilket jag alltid gillar.
